It is one of the most startling and moving albums I've ever heard. Opening with an achingly melancholy version of "The Kick Inside" with a haunting, longing tone that will make you weep (as will much of the album), the work progresses through a brilliant succession of stripped-down, emotionally wrenching pieces.
